Kanpur University is officially known as Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU or CSJM University), is a public state university established in the year 1966 in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, India. Kanpur University is fall under one of the largest universities of Asia that catering both urban and rural students by offering an unparalleled range of Academic and Professional courses in various departments and affiliated colleges of the university. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

The Kanpur University was originally splitted  from Agra University and Ms. Mayawati as Chief Minister changed the name from Kanpur University to Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj University after the name of the Maharaja of the Indian princely state of Kolhapur Shahu IV (also known as Chhatrapati Shahuji Maharaj). The campus of Kanpur University is spread over a area of 264 acres, containing all the major academic and professional teaching departments. The campus is eqquiped with all the modern facilities such as- Auditorium, Bank, Cafeteria, Central Library, Computer Center, Guest House, Helipad, Hostels, International Center, Lecture Hall Complex, Multipurpose Hall.

Academic and Professional Programmes:

The Kanpur University currently has about 170 affiliated colleges in 15 districts of Uttar Pradesh, offering wide range of both academic and professional courses in all disciplines of Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Engineering, Biotechnology, Computer Applications, Management and Medicine at the  affiliated colleges and institutions. The campus of the univresity includes faculties of Life Sciences, Business Management, Education and English. Other than these the university also has a computer centre, a department of Adult and Continuing Education, Communication and a College Development Council. The Kanpur University has recently started an Institute of Engineering and Technology for the students of engineering in the campus that offering courses in four branches of engineering viz. Chemical, Computer Science and Information, Mechanical Engineering.
