The University of Burdwan (Also known as Burdwan University) is a teaching and affiliating public university, established by the Government of West Bengal on 15th of June, 1960, located in Bardhaman, West Bengal, India. The University of Burdwan has its territorial jurisdiction extends over five districts – Burdwan, Hooghly (excluding Serampore Subdivision), Bankura, Birbhum and Purulia and currently the university has about 150 plus affiliated colleges under its roof.

Admission to M.A./M.Sc for the session 2011-13

Burdwan University inviting applications for admission to the M.A./M.Sc courses for the session 2011-13 in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Environmental Science, Biotechnology & Microbiology. The courses in Env. Sc., Biotechnology & Microbiology are self-financing.

Teaching at post-graduate level in the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Geography, Zoology and Botany is imparted, in addition to the concerned Departments at the University Campus, at the undergraduate affiliated colleges of the University viz., B.B. College, Asansol, (Physics), Durgapur Govt. College, Durgapur (Chemistry), J.K. College, Purulia (Mathematics), Chandernagore Govt. College, Chandernagore (Geography), Vivekananda College, Burdwan (Chemistry), Suri Vidyasagar College, Suri (Zoology), Hooghly Mohsin College, Chinsurah (Botany), Ramananda College (Botany). Admission of candidates in the said subject at both the centres will be regulated from this office on the basis of counselling to be held for the purpose.

Course Duration	2 years
Eligibility	For Environmental Science: Science graduates (10+2+3) having Honours in Env. Sc. / Microbiology / Botany/ Chemistry/ Zoology/ Physics/ Geography/ Geology/ Physiology/ Biotechnology/ Biochemistry and B.Sc.(Agri.) Hons. (10+2+4). For Biotechnology : Science graduates(10+2+3) and Engineering graduates (10+2+4) in Biotechnology with at least 55% marks and Science graduates (10+2+3) having Honours with at least 55% marks in (i) Chemistry with any branch of Bio-Science as combination subject or Biology at H.S. level or (ii) Any branch of Bio-Science with Chemistry as combination subject or (iii) Agricultural Science. For Others: graduates doing Honours/ Spl. Honours in the relevant subjects for each of the three years of the degree new course are only eligible to apply. For admission to Statistics, Honours graduates in Mathematics may also apply. For Statistics: Honours graduates in Mathematics may also apply For Chemistry: candidates must have Mathematics at the degree level. One extra seat will be allotted to each of the DSA-assisted departments i.e., Physics, Chemistry & CAS Department-Botany to be filled-up by the students domicile in other states. Candidates awaiting results of B.Sc 3rd year examination can collect forms on production of mark sheet of B.Sc 2nd year examination. But the filled-in forms will have to be submitted alongwith the marksheet of B.Sc final examination only.
Selection Procedure	Selection of candidates for admission to M.Sc. course in Biotechnology & Env. Sc. will be based on their academic records and their performances at a written test of one hour duration to be held at 12 noon and 2-00 p.m. respectively on 18.08.2011 (Thursday) at the D.D.E. Building, opposite of Meghnad Saha Planetarium, Golapbag, B.U.
Reservation	As per Govt. rules.
Course Fees	For admission in the traditional subjects at the University Departments, candidates are to submit a total amount of Rs745/- only for admission. For admission in the subjects of Env. Sc., Microbiology & Biotechnology, the required course fee per year is Rs.25,000/-, Rs. 25,000/- & Rs. 30,000/- respectively and the Lab fee is Rs. 5,000/- (total), Rs. 5,000/-(per year) and Rs. 5,000/- (per year) respectively. However, at the time of admission in anyone of these subjects, a candidate has to submit Rs.20,425/- only. The amount may be paid in cash or by a D/D drawn in favour of the Finance Officer, B.U. payable at S.B.I., B.U. The candidates will be required to pay the balance amount of the yearly course fee (Rs.10,000/- for Env. Sc. & Microbiology and Rs.15,000/- for Biotechnology) after three months from the date of admission to the course.
Issue and Submission of Application Form	Between 11-00 a.m. and 1-30 p.m. on all working days from 15.07.2011 to 12.08.2011.

Eligible candidates can apply in prescribed forms obtainable at the Sales Counter at Rajbati, (and not by post) on payment of Rs. 100/- in cash, between 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on all working days (except Saturdays, Sundays and University Holidays).

Candidates obtaining the form from the website, http://www.buruniv.ac.in must enclose a demand draft of Rs. 100/- drawn in favour of “Finance Officer, The University of Burdwan” payable at SBI, Burdwan at the time of submitting the same.

Publication of Short-Listed Candidates for all the subjects: 29.08.2011 (Monday) at 3 p.m.

Admission will be start from: 30 August 2011 to 6 September 2011

Classes for P.G. Course of studies are likely to commence from: 7 September 2011.
